Expedia bookings to Mexico have increased in recent years, indicating that Mexico is maintaining its position as a top vacation spot for visitors. The vice president of lodging supply of Latin America and Caribbean Expedia, Marco Tagliatti stated, “Mexico remains a favorite destination for our travelers worldwide, with over 1.5 million people booking travel to Mexico using Expedia websites in the last year.” He went on to say, “Bookings made on Expedia to Mexico grew more than 30 percent year over year in the second quarter of 2011, and Expedia’s commitment to Mexico has also grown as we continue to work closely with the Mexican tourism industry to promote travel to the country by travelers from around the world.”

One of the most notable trends in travel bookings to Mexico is an increase in interest in Mexico City. Some other popular Mexican travel destinations include Cancun, Puerto Vallarta, Riviera Maya, and Mazatlan.

The relationship between Mexico and Expedia in promoting tourism is stronger than ever. In the last year alone, for example, 250 new hotels in some of the top Mexican travel destinations have registered with Expedia. It’s estimated that around 60 million tourists visit Mexico every month, making it one of the leading tourism destinations in the world. In fact, this week Expedia representatives are in Mexico City for the 2011 International Tourism Fair of the Americas. During this event, Expedia will meet with Mexican tourism agencies to further discuss the future of tourism in Mexico and help ensure that Mexico continues to secure its position has a leading travel destination.
