With five Latin Grammys and one Grammy under her belt, Mexican singer Julieta Venegas is considered one of the most accomplished artists in the Latin music sphere, and her ever-evolving sound proves that this presence isn’t going to fade anytime soon. Playing multiple instruments and winning crowds over with the depth and intimacy of her music, Venegas poses a triple threat as a singer, songwriter and producer.

Raised in Tijuana, Baja California, Venegas began studying music at a young age, and quickly developed a distinctive style that set her apart from other Latin rock acts of the time. It was this unique style that made her a pioneer for a new wave of alternative Latina artists such as Natalia Lafourcade, Ximena Sariñana and Carla Morrison.

Venegas initially established herself in the Latin rock scene during the late ‘90s with the release of her debut solo album “Aquí” (Here.) Over the years she proved to be a versatile musician, spanning from full-fledged rock en español to folk to approachable pop-rock beats. Additionally, Venegas made a name for herself as a collaborator, performing with other big name Latin artists such as Paulina Rubio and Miguel Bosé.

With her music, Venegas finds a way to balance critical acclaim along with commercial success; she takes the stage with her signature accordion and captivates audiences as she moves fluidly from that to the keyboard, and then the guitar. There’s a sincerity and ease to the way she performs that make it easy to understand why fans have found her to be such a lovable figure. And American fans on the east coast will soon have the chance to enjoy Venegas perform in November as she finishes touring in support of her last album, “Otra Cosa” (Something Else.) She will be playing in Washington, D.C. on Nov. 9 and in New York City the next day, finally closing out in Miami Nov. 13 before returning to Mexico City.

From Venegas’ debut album Aquí to her latest Otra Cosa, her music has evolved from cynical about love to upbeat and wonderful in its simplicity. Julieta Venegas is truly a one-of-a-kind Mexican singer, and with her diverse musical talent and contemplative lyrics, it’s no wonder she has cultivated a loyal following throughout Mexico, the United States and the world.
